Abstract :
The Jones matrix representation is used to obtain an analytic closed-form expression for the optical transmission of a general double-layer twisted nematic (TN) liquid-crystal display with arbitrary twist angles and uniform pretilt angles. Based on this result, the optimum off-state design criteria for both single-layer and double-layer TN displays are formulated
