Abstract :
The use of simple analytical formulas corrected by a saturation coefficient obtained from a detailed field analysis to calculate electrodynamic forces is improved by the use of the finite-element method, assuming one pole pitch and nonlinear iron characteristics. The results confirm how important proper consideration of saturation is for generator reliability. The usefulness of simple analytical formulas for fast evaluation of influence of saturation and slot dimension is shown as well
