Abstract :
For nearly forty years radar displays in small and medium systems have been used by dark-adapted, dedicated radar operators or observers. Recently there has been a growing need for displays to be used in a `glance¿ mode, often under high-ambient-light conditions. The paper discusses the implications and outcome of such usage with particular reference to small-target detection in sea-clutter conditions
