Abstract :
Wavelength (600-1600 nm) and time (1000-10000 h) dependence of the `in situ´ 60Co gamma ray-induced light losses in the pure silica core fibers of high OH and low OH contents, and single mode have been measured under various experimental conditions of high (106 R/h) and low (102 R/h) exposure rate irradiation at ambient temperature, and at various temperatures ranging from -60°C to 100°C at 4×103 R/h. The behavior of the losses were discussed, and an empirical expression for estimating the loss by long term irradiation was presented
