Abstract :
Single layer dual mode antenna for UHF RFID tag using open stubs has recently been introduced with a simple design method. Only simulated results have been shown that the antenna can be excellently used for both metallic and non-metallic objects. In this paper, single layer dual mode antennas for UHF RFID tag using open stubs are fabricated on FR4 substrates. Four different mounting methods on a metallic object are investigated for its effect. The measured results show that the method of mounting the tags on a metallic object significantly affects the discrepancy between simulated and measured results. A better antenna design method is required to reduce the effect of the gap between a FR4 substrate and a metallic object.
