Abstract :
This paper presents a control strategy of Plug-in Electric Vehicles (PEVs) charging for reducing the impact of load shedding and power fluctuations of Micro grid (MG) due to renewable outputs such as wind or solar. Especially when MG operate in islanding mode, no power support from the main system. It may spark a problem of insufficient power supply and eventually cause power outages. During islanding operation, load shedding is necessary to prevent the problem, however, some customers will inevitably encounter service interruptions. Predictions of increasingly employed PEVs are another interesting issue because they are an intelligent load equipped with battery for stored energy and advanced communications systems. The PEV battery charging can be temporarily paused, while not affecting the customer significantly. Designing appropriate control strategies of PEVs charging can help to mitigate the impact to customers from load shedding situation when the system encounters demand-supply problem.
