Abstract
The success or failure of electrical projects can often be determined by the proper use, or lack of use, of adequate equipment inspection and testing procedures. Examples are given of a large petroleum production project with an extremely tight client startup schedule where the use of proper inspection and testing procedures ensured successful start-up ahead of the client´s schedule. Factory inspection and witness tests that should be performed on electrical equipment are examined. Field testing and the checkout of equipment defects at the earliest stage can improve project schedule performance markedly, and proper timing of onsite testing can ensure contractor performance as well as detect damage or errors in installation
