Abstract :
The author comments on the paper 6471A (S8) (see ibid., vol.136, no.2, p.55-65) in which it is stated that ´Although the purpose of a transformer is to transfer power, few texts give any explanation of how this occurs, and the Poynting vector does not transfer it between windings.´ The purpose of this correspondence is to refute the statement concerning the Poynting vector. The author of the original paper presents analysis of a transformer which is short-circuited as well as one which is not. He justifies his views presented in the paper 6471A but suggests that the comments help to illustrate the point that the field descriptions of power flow and momentum are unnecessarily complex and confusing.<>
