Abstract :
Presents an introduction to a special issue on metamaterials. The papers are very briefly described. In the mainstream metamaterial part of this issue, particular emphasis is placed on the so called left-handed, negative-reftactive-index (or negative index), or double negative (DNG) media. The second part of this issue concentrates on recent explorations and advances of EBG structures and related high-impedance surfaces
