Abstract
The paper describes a concept of the multi-energy sensor for measuring spectra of X-rays and gammas in the energy range of about 1 keV-1 MeV. The sensor operation is based on the relationship between the spatial distribution of scintillation signal generated in a scintillation plate stretched along the X-ray beam and the spectrum of radiation impinging the end face of the plate. The paper discusses the feasible spectral range of sensor operation and the criteria of the scintillator selection; describes the procedure of spectrum reconstruction; illustrates the impact of signal statistics, the number of selected energy windows and the measured spectral range on the precision of the spectrum reconstruction.
