  • Abstract
A new microwave equivalent-circuit model is presented for multilayer chip inductors which have relied upon a conventional RF model unsuitable for higher and wider frequency bands used, for instance, in ultra- wideband applications. Conductor layers in the multilayer chip inductor introduce parasitic effects at microwave frequencies. Based on mathematical analysis, a complicated equivalent-circuit model is reduced to a simpler model. The proposed model, which includes a substrate-mounting effect, is confirmed with measurements from 2.7 to 8.2 nH on a Teflon substrate at frequencies up to 13 GHz.
