Abstract :
Planar optical waveguides of the soluble polydiacetylene 9-SMBU were formed by dip-coating on silicon substrates. The quadratic electro-optic (Kerr) response was measured by guided wave polarisation interferometry. The effective electro-optic coefficient was found to be 3.7*10-20 m2V-2 at a wavelength of 1.3 mu m.
