Abstract :
The North American broadcasting structure and the relationships between the different forms of the media are examined in order to understand the North American approach to high-definition television (HDTV). The processes that are being used to define the appropriate technical systems for HDTV broadcasting are explained. Technical proposals that have been made are summarized
