Abstract
This paper presents a report on the analysis and observation of periodic power oscillations caused by the combined effect of the polarisation-dependent loss and the periodic nature of the polarisation-evolution in optical fibre recirculating loops. The power oscillation is expected to affect the measure of the optical signal-to-noise ratio against distance. The effect is specific to recirculating loops and requires compensation to appropriately replicate the behaviour of long-haul transmission
