Abstract :
This paper outlines the major advantages which accrue from using an “open” architecture approach to creating machine control systems. The approach known as the universal machine control (UMC) system was conceived to cover aspects of the design, configuration, and programming of machine control systems. The paper presents a comprehensive description of the structure and functional logic of the UMC run-time architecture. A brief overview of the UMC software support environment is also provided. UMC is conceived to make a valuable contribution in realising successful mechatronic solutions to manufacturing industry
