Abstract :
In this letter, the problem of 2-D direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for noncircular sources employing L-shape arrays is addressed. Firstly, we construct an extended cross-covariance matrix between the extended data samples which are obtained by concatenating the observation data and their conjugated components along the z-axis and the x-axis. Then the elevation angle is obtained by using simultaneous singular value decomposition (SVD) technique for two submatrices extracted from the extended cross-covariance matrix. With the estimated elevation angle, the azimuth angle estimation of each source is obtained by the 1-D beamforming-like technique. In the final part of this letter, simulation results are illustrated to show very attractive estimation performance of the proposed technique.
