Abstract
This paper represents an elegant presentation of a subject classic in Communication Theory. While the statistical theory of signal detection and estimation described here is to be found in several textbooks, this manuscript is noteworthy for its clear and concise style. Readers unacquainted with the subject will find the paper valuable because of its comparative brevity, but also because it serves as an excellent preparation for additional more-detailed study.
