Abstract :
A ground-breaking European spacecraft will be first to explore Saturn´s largest moon. On 25 December, the Huygens space probe begins its 20-day descent towards the surface of Titan. This article outlines the construction of the descent probe and instruments carried, gives details of the mission, and speculates on the conditions that might be found.
