Abstract :
An analysis of chromatic dispersion in single-mode fluoride fibers is presented. It is shown that it is possible, with a simple depressed-cladding profile, to obtain the necessary flexibility to achieve simultaneously dispersion-flattening and minimum extrinsic losses. Hence, optimum performance is obtained over a broad wavelength region. Dispersion sensitivity to small variations in the design parameters is also reported. Some preliminary comparison is made to present-day silica fibers.<>
