Abstract
The authors outline an overview of the Group Special Mobile (GSM) access protocol and highlight the principle of an algorithm which exploits the difference in the distance separation between the mobile stations and the base station as an added control dimension to reduce the number of possible contentions on the dedicated control channel. A comparison of the performance of the original and modified protocols at various traffic loads is presented
