Abstract :
General formulas describing field distributions and eigenvalue equations are presented for both TE and TM modes of a periodic waveguide or a multiple quantum-well waveguides with a periodic square wave refractive index profile. The effects of the structural parameters on the mode coupling properties are analyzed and the single-mode propagation is discussed for some GaAs/AlGaAs optical waveguides
