Abstract :
A novel grating monopole antenna which consists of a grating patch and a rectangular ground plane with a concave shows a wide operating 2:1 VSWR bandwidth of 502 MHz for digital video broadcasting-terrestrial application is presented. This wideband property is achieved by using an impedance-matching technique of cutting a notch at the ground pattern opposite to the microstrip line. The concavity in the ground pattern serves as an effective technique for the gap between the radiating element and the ground plane. The large grating number can lower the resistance at higher resonant mode, thus it enhances the bandwidth. The proposed antenna has omnidirectional radiation patterns in the yz-plane. Details of the proposed antenna designs and experimental results of the constructed prototypes are presented.
