Abstract
This paper focuses on investigating the effect resulted from reducing track pitch in digital versatile disc (DVD) read-only memory (ROM). Suppose the resulting main effect is the lower tolerance of tracking offset, the relationship between tracking offset and corresponding bit error rate will be simulated through an optical model of the readout channel. According to the simulation result, the effect is not too serious to be compensated and several possible improvement methods are proposed. Therefore, together with some other practical changes, it is possible to achieve a higher capacity with red laser.
