            Abstract :
An improved algorithm is derived for minimising the global roundoff noise gain G of nth-order digital filters, yielding at least n(n-1)/2 coefficients of the filter structure to be zero. This algorithm is based on the necessary and sufficient conditions for the minimum G subject to the transformation matrix being triangular, and these conditions are achieved by modifying the Smith and Bomar (1988) iterative algorithm
