Abstract
Computation of attenuation, phase rotation, and cross-polarization of radio waves due to rain in tropical regions using finite element method is the subject of this work. Computations are made of the forward-scattering amplitudes of oblate spheroidal raindrops at 20 and 30 GHz, assuming plane waves at normal incidence to the raindrop axis. The forward-scattering amplitudes are employed to obtain the required attenuation, phase rotation, and cross-polarization using the rainfall rate data for Nigeria, a tropical African country. The results obtained in this work compare with those existing in the open literature
