Beyond the IT department - [editorial]

In some places, IT has become a department that dare not speak its name. Some companies have decided to do away with having dedicated IT departments and have absorbed them into other business functions. Others seem to have dispensed with them all together, although in truth what they have done is simply give the IT department a new name and maybe some altered responsibilities.
