Abstract :
Despite the obvious benefits, not everyone in the IT sector is convinced of the value of chartered status for its professionals. Indeed, over the last 20 years, the IT industry has in some respects been rather indifferent toward the notion. The reasons for this apparent coolness are many and varied. IT is still a relatively new profession, and has evolved at a breakneck pace compared with other disciplines. And, partly because of the unique mix of diversity and specificity in its make-up, consensus over issues of professionalism has proved hard to pin down.
