Defense Department censors portions of optical engineering symposium. The Department of Defense stopped the presentation of about 100 technical papers at the 26th annual International Technical Symposium of the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers, held Aug. 22–27. The last-minute action was undertaken because the papers contained sensitive data and Soviet and other foreign scientists were attending the meeting, according to a Defense Department official.
