Abstract
A concept of volume miniaturization of a rectangular patch antenna by using a metamaterial substrate with a large value of the real part of the effective relative permittivity instead of a conventional homogenous high dielectric material is proposed in this study. The specific types of metamaterials that can be used as substrates of the antenna are suggested.
