Abstract :
A method in use since about 1965 for design optimization by computer is described. It has been applied to a large variety of transformers, turbine generators, hydroelectric generators, smaller salient pole synchronous machines, and squirrel-cage induction motors. The programs have been developed in close cooperation with industrial users. The method is surprisingly simple and efficient. A small program has been made solely for the purpose of explaining the method and demonstrating how it works. The program designs small single-phase transformers with two round wire layer windings.<>
