Abstract :
A photonic integrated 2×2 WDM cross-connect switch which provides full access to eight wavelength channels has been designed and fabricated in silica on silicon substrate. The switch consists of two novel 2×N phased-array waveguide gratings which are connected by a thermo-optic switch array with no waveguide crossing. The crosstalk for the cross and bar states is better than -20 and -15 dB, respectively, with a fibre-to-fibre insertion loss of <13 dB
