Abstract
The meaning of the term ´knowledge compilation´ is examined. Knowledge compilation at two levels is described. The first is the knowledge level, in the sense described by A. Newell (1982). The second is the symbolic level, where ´symbolic´ encompasses anything that can be implemented on a digital computer.<>
