Abstract :
The authors demonstrate that nonlinear and chaotic dynamics in external cavity laser diodes can be controlled by the use of optimised impulsive delayed feedback applied via the laser drive current. Attention is given to practical constraints arising from technical delay in application of the control signal. The rapid convergence to a targeted dynamical state of the laser is graphically shown by the diminishing amplitude of the required control pulses
