Abstract :
Reports an unexpected result that was obtained when an energy meter was added to the high-current arc tester described in UL746A. Usually, materials are ranked by the number of arcs it takes to ignite them. However, it has been found that the tendency of materials to ignite other nearby material is a function of the maximum arc energy recorded. The author believes that this quantity should be considered as important as the arcs to ignition in characterizing a material.<>
