Abstract
The history of software from the 1960s has barely begun to be studied and literature on its past is limited. This article explores why such a situation exists, identifies study resources, and explains some of the issues concerning archival holdings. The article suggests an initial research agenda, arguing that the 1960s were seminal for the history of software as a whole.
