Abstract :
An automatic frequency control circuit for a 636 Mbit/s SF-FSK coherent optical communication system has been implemented. The intermediate frequency is stabilised at 3.2 GHz+or-5 MHz, resulting in a system power penalty due to intermediate frequency drift of less than 0.1 dB at BER=10-11. The system features a fully automated cold start circuit.
