Abstract :
The author describes the Southeastern Anatolia Project, called "GAP" from its initials in Turkish, a regional development project aiming at the full-fledged socioeconomic development of the northern end of the Mesopotamian plain. GAP is unique in the size and scope of the projects it is implementing, in its relationship to a variety of stakeholder organizations, and in its mission to coordinate sustainable human development that derives its momentum from water resources development.
