Abstract :
Years ago, I drove an old Chevy into a carwash. When I exited, the car sparkled, but, to my great dismay, the monopole whip antenna mounted on the hood had popped off at some point during the wash and dry cycle, leaving me without my AM car radio for months. While that was just a small inconvenience, having an antenna on a critical communication radio snap into two in a battlefield situation can have dire consequences.
