Abstract :
The EU and UK Competition Rules prohibit restrictive agreements such as cartels and resale price maintenance and abuses of market power. The EU rules are set out in Articles 81 and 82 of the Treaty of Rome. In addition, those operating in the UK are also subject to UK competition law, which is very similar to the EU rules, and is contained in the Competition Act 1998. Examples are given describing cartels in several industries and the punishments imposed upon the companies involved.
