Abstract :
In the light of recent terrorist events there is more interest than ever in smart cards. Many national governments are considering issuing multi-application smart ID cards which can act as passports as well as allow the cardholder access to other services such as library, electronic tax returns and driver´s licence. The article provides an update on relevant issues in the rapidly-changing arena.
