Abstract
The airgap armature in toothless flux shield is emerging as a preferred stator configuration for superconducting generators being developed world-wide. The steady state vibrations and the natural frequencies of such a stator have been studied in this paper. A two-dimensional static analysis and a three-dimensional dynamic analysis using cyclic symmetry have been presented. The armature composite has been represented by equivalent homogenous solid having orthotropic material properties. The calculated vibration amplitudes and natural frequencies for the 300 MVA superconducting generator stator have been presented.
