Controlling insulation difficulties in the vicinity of Great Salt Lake

Lee: Carrier-current systems are, in general, very sensitive to insulation conditions on the line, especially at frequencies above 10 kilocycles, and the value of washing insulators as a means of maintaining a high degree of insulation resistance west of Salt Lake City is demonstrated by the fact that our carrier telegraph system has operated for five years without a single interruption due to failure of the line to transmit sufficient current.
