Abstract :
The authors have developed new ME tapes by the deposition method forming pseudo-double layers at the deposition rate of 1 μm/s and examined the physical and the electromagnetic characteristics. Non-magnetic seedbed layer made of cobalt oxide was created at a thickness of 3 nm between the polymer base film and the magnetic layer. Smaller columnar diameter can be maintained throughout the magnetic layer by the effect of this seedbed layer. Higher CN ratio can be obtained by this new structure at high deposition rate. It will be applied in high density digital recording to store computer and moving picture data on a cassette
