Abstract :
Omitting the boundary edges in the process of the method of moments, when they are placed on an infinite conducting surface, is critical in solving half-space scattering problems by application of the image theory. In this letter, an effective treatment for those edges using virtual vertices is presented. In the half-space scattering problem, we first investigate the effect of boundary edges, which are segmented by Rao-Wilton-Glisson basis functions, on an infinite conducting surface. We then propose a simple and effective treatment to acquire accurate results by eliminating numerical errors caused by those edges. Virtual vertices make it possible to effectively compute the scatterer on a conducting plane without significant changes in the computational procedure.
