Abstract
In order to clarify the mechanism of the Faraday rotation in the magnetic garnets containing tetrahedral Co3+, the temperature dependences of the Faraday rotation spectra (FRS) were measured at temperatures between 60 K and 300 K for single crystalline films of (Y,Gd)3(Fe,Co)5O12. As a result, the characteristic dispersive-shaped FRS due to Co3+ were observed at around 1.3 μm, and the FRS depends strongly on the temperature, and increases with decreasing temperature. Furthermore, the FRS were calculated in the scheme of the crystal field theory and the molecular field approximation
