Abstract :
To fully understand the breakthrough represented by the
concept of sideward depletion, not only in the field of radiation detection
but also for the integrated low-noise front end, we have to go back to the
late 1970s and the beginning of the 1980s to see what was then the state of
the art in detector and front-end electronics design.
