Abstract
A comparative study of the measurement accuracy capabilities of solid state watthour meters and other commercially available measurement instruments was performed. This study proposes a set of mathematically designed “waveforms” that could be used as a standard for the uniform, meaningful and reproducible evaluation testing of solid state watthour meters designed for use in nonsinusoidal environments. The test waveforms were theoretically developed based on an extensive database of field captured distorted waveforms that, in most cases, were monitored and recorded during power quality investigations over the last five years. Experimentation was performed using both the theoretically developed waveforms and the field captured waveforms
