Abstract :
What role can a university electrical-engineering department have in the field of urban-traffic studies? Two principal contributions have been identified. The first comprises a furtherance of fundamental knowledge of traffic behaviour and control achieved through theoretical studies and more particularly via simulation. The second contribution is through the provision of specific projects of limited scope. These typically relate to high-level technology such as might be involved through the use of microprocessors
