Abstract :
The range of alternating-current machines is immense, from a few watts to over 1000 MW output, with correspondingly wide varieties of operational requirements, topological arrangements and engineering problems. Great progress has been made in all these aspects since the origin of polyphase electrical engineering around the end of the last century. At the present time, with even more advanced cooling systems and integrated combinations of machines and power-electronic circuits, the prospect is generally one of continuing steady improvements plus some specially notable developments in particular areas
