Abstract :
A short while ago, the IEEE Control Systems Society (CSS) led by Tariq Samad and Anu Annaswamy, put together a large report “Impact of Control: Overview, Success Stories, and Research Challenges” (IOCT report, see http://www.ieeecss.org/main/about-the-society/ioctreport). Of course, this is not the first or the only effort in looking at future directions for control, but it does represent a substantial piece of work with input from many different people. These activities are important both for our own research community and for society more generally.
